Ancient Ancestry: The Cultivators
Haplogroup: J2a1b
My DNA shows we belong to the Cultivators, haplogroup J, who are about 20,000 years old. Ancestors most likely lived in the southern and northern parts of the Fertile Crescent, AKA present day Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Iraq.
The Cultivators advanced their civilization in other areas, such as writing and government.My particular DNA results reveal even more. We're Cultivators J2, associated with Anatolia, the eastern portion of modern day Turkey.
While some members of the J2 group remained in Anatolia, about 5,000 years ago other members of the population migrated into Europe. This migration occurred during the Neolithic period, defined by farming techniques, the use of pottery and the invention of metal tools. The J2's can be found in today's populations with notable frequency in Italy, Iberia, Turkey, Albania, Greece and even India, and most likely interacted with numerous cultures, including the Greeks and Romans.
But the DNA displays more evidence of an even more specific subgroup.
It's possible ancestors may have been members of populations which specifically expanded from Anatolia to the Greek island of Crete between 8500 and 4300 BC. Here's where we are today:
According to the most recent census this is where many of our families now live in Italy. Most of our decendants came from the province of Frozinone including Latina. The Marini's are out of control...they're running out of room to fit them. I think they better move down to the "boot."
