I
've spent considerable time creating images from 8mm movies
While there is inherent film grain
these are photos we've never had before.

Vintage Audio & Video

You can download ALL of them at this link:
https://www.box.com/files/0/f/17629136/Loreto
You may need to sign in with a FREE account to download them. Well worth it!
Audio featured are of my parents/family, my kids & some of my wife's family.
Some files are repeated because they were featured on another site which no longer
exists. I then uploaded everything that was on that former site some of which were
already featured

These videos are a combination of 8mm film dating back to the 1950's with vintage photos that are as old or older, mixed to compliment audio I recorded in the 1970's, except for ICTV 8, & Chris & Sinatra recorded in the early/mid80's. Each is a laugh!
Read the description of each to better understand what it's about.

Uncle Harry had boxes of recordings on reel to reel tapes of himself playing the mandolin. Sadly, the tapes along with his 8mm home movies & photos were discarded after he & Edna passed away.

Harry died in 1979. Seven years before in 1973 I recorded Harry performing his old favorites. This is the only tape we have of him. Who knew this would become such a priceless memory.
I'm playing guitar. George Cuatt is the "whistler." In the background you can hear my mother laughing, as most everyone else was in their tiny kitchen.

A footnote if not an odd coincidence. Harry, who was a mason by trade was struck by lightening when he was young. Working on a scaffold during a storm, the lightening struck the trowel, knocking Harry to the ground. It left him deaf in one ear which s why he cannot hear himself playing off key.

Summer '73 Thunder.
A thunderstorm so loud it shook Harry's
mobile home. I stepped over to the window to record it.
My portable cassette deck with it's inexpensive mic recorded the thunder as
static. I can see this as I write it.
I'm looking at the window. There's a loud crackling thunder. I look to my right to see my mother
who was seated at the kitchen table between my sister Diane & someone else
(I cannot remember who that was).
The thunder scared her so that she jumped over the other person landing on the floor.
Seeing this I ran into the kitchen, only to slip on the spilled coffee sliding right next to my mother, all the while keeping the tape running.
Images used in these videos do not represent that night since there was no photos or 8mm home movies were taken & it was years before camcorders were available:

Updated 8mm Transfers

Heads Up! No matter how many times I tried to keepthe paragraphs & their associated links together they would only drop further down the page so as you read just keep n scrollin'...
When I last worked on creating the digital transfers of my parent's 8mm the results were good. They are now in near mint condition.
The colors are rich, vivid. The images, sharp (Remember this is 8mm, not HD-TV). Some low light footage is grainy but that is to be expected.
Not featured are Marie's 1969 blizzard wedding & Dan Marini's 8mm moments (of Pleasantville) due to increased grain noise.
To insure the highest quality this video contains only TRUE 8mm not those transferred to VHS then burned to DVD.
Sadly that's all that's left of Dan's but at least I've archived them. I'm hoping Frank Patane someday finds his originals.
You can see Marie's & Dan's videos here:
The tall brown projector in the ad above is the model my father purchased in 1956. It retailed for about $118.00. It was probably slightly less when bundled with a camera which he had, like the small dark brown camera with the single lens. The camera's gone but I still have that projector & use it. It is in very good condition. I'm writing this in 2011. Based on the projector's age, & approximate cost of $120.00 that's about $2.18 cents a year! How many TV's, PC's, & cell phones purchased in 2011 will still be around in 55 years? NONE!
Below are the updated 8mm transfers:

ASK! ASK! ASK!

Ask other relatives or close friends if they have photos, 8mm or VHS of our (your) family.
I have proven this to be the case many times. This little piece featuring Donald & Barbara & Mela & Joe is an example of what I'm referring to:Donald & Barbara & Mela & Joe
Dan Marini recorded about 16 minutes worth of Pleasantville family footage from the late 50's to early 60's, which no one (in NY) knew existed, not even those featured in the 8mm. In fact he captured several important family events.
What makes this most important today is the original 8mm films are GONE. Disposed of after they were transferred, all that remains are two badly worn VHS tapes from the late 80's. I have since archived the files from those tapes. Below you'll see:
Doug's wedding, myself about 4 years old driving a car, Easter at my house, Diane as a BLONDE, the day before & after Marie's wedding aka the Blizzard of '69, and many other family memories...
Linda Mahoney (Dan's daughter), recorded a few moments of family when visiting Quincy...
Also mixed in her many reels from 45 years ago was the only known footage of Donald's wedding, which no one (in NY) including Donald & Barbara knew of until I asked to transfer her 8mm:

Mary's sister had VHS of our wedding day as they were getting ready. NO ONE KNEW this existed. It was at the end of the tape long forgotten. It was found only after I asked to archive the tapes which we thought were only videos of Christmas' from '79 & '80. While dark & sometimes out of focus it is all we have of that day: Larry & Mary's Wedding Day
Years ago you didn't make 8mm copies so when a film was developed it wasn't "shared," & often remained unseen by the very persons in it, or forgotten by those filming. The same is true with VHS. Did anyone ever give you a copy of a tape? How many films or tapes might you or your family be featured in but have never seen? VHS tapes are eroding faster than their 8mm predecessor.
There could very well be photos, film or video of you or your family but you'll never know unless you ASK!

Blog FAQ

1. Why blogs & not web sites? Blogs are FREE. They allowed me to create family "pages" with easy links to over 3000 photos & videos.

2.Does anyone really look at all of this? At one time, yes. Now, few view. WHY? See # 5.

3. Why so many video versions of the same moment? The subject's the same but the video is not. (See the video below) I would also update a video as I created better quality transfers. The oldest versions remain online to link the better quality videos.

4. When did you start? I began restoring/uploading photos around the 2007 holidays. My first slide show was a memorial to my sister Diane who died April 2008. Following years with easily 1000's of hours invested in this project I ended for the most part around the 2012 holidays with updates as needed which are mostly the passing of family members.

5. Why end? Sadly, nearly all of the "old timers," featured are gone & their kids/grand kids just don't care. Combined, there are easily over 3000 images & videos.
More than THREE THOUSAND?

Yes, but it's like there are NONE since I rarely hear from any one. While I would often ask for family to contribute more photos/videos/ documents/stories, rare were they shared. With the decline in views & lack of participation it was time to turn off the projector & put away the albums.

This is a sample video of how the same subject is redefined showcasing it in a new way:
Yes, you may have seen this before but not in this way. First an 8mm screen shot slideshow:Thumbnail
Doug, Donald, Diane, & Larry Tocci
1957. Donald's home coming. This is the ONLY video of the four Tocci siblings. In 1957, my father films Donald's welcome home. Diane passed away 2008, Doug in 2010. In NO OTHER TIME (that I'm aware of) is there video of the four of us posed together.

This begins out of order showing the four of us (cropping explained):

Cropping:
# 1 Close up of the four of us (you also see Grandma Cedrone & Marie Patane)
# 2 Close up of Doug & Grandma.
# 3 Close up of Diane.Video then begins in order with noticeable cropped footage.

One more look but this time, not cropped but transferred in FULL FRAME from sprockets to edge of film offering the biggest sampling of the moment:Tocci Siblings 1957
